ROLE SUMMARY
The Senior Manager – Radio Communication will lead the strategy, development, and implementation of radio frequency (RF) communication systems supporting unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) platforms, in particular Mira Aerospace HAPS platform.. This role is responsible for ensuring robust, secure, and regulatory-compliant communication architectures for command, control, telemetry, and payload transmission systems.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, integration, and validation of RF communication systems for UAVs, including C2 (command & control), telemetry, video links, and SATCOM.
- Define and manage technical roadmaps for communications subsystems aligned with company strategy and aerospace standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (aerospace systems, avionics, software, compliance) to ensure seamless integration of communication systems into UAV platforms.
- Interface with regulatory authorities (e.g., TDRA, ITU, GCAA, FCC, CEPT, etc.) to ensure spectrum compliance and licensing for UAV operations across international markets.
- Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for RF-related performance issues.
- Oversee selection, qualification, and supplier management for antennas, modems, SDRs, RF front-ends, encryption modules, etc.
- Guide R&D efforts in areas such as mesh networking, 5G integration, and long-range LOS/BLOS communication technologies.
- Contribute to safety and certification activities under relevant standards (e.g., DO-160, MIL-STD-461, SORA/SAIL for BVLOS).
- Prepare technical documentation and support customer engagements, proposals, and demonstrations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of global spectrum regulations and UAV operational approvals.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles for communication systems.
- Familiarity with NATO STANAGs or similar standards.
- Exposure to artificial intelligence for adaptive communication networks.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in RF communications, with at least 3 years in a leadership or senior technical role.
- Experience with BVLOS operations, aviation data links (e.g., L-band, C-band, Ku-band, SATCOM), and low SWaP communication hardware.
- Proven expertise in designing RF systems for aerospace applications, ideally for UAVs
- Experience working on dual-use (civil/military) UAV systems with experience in designing certification compliant radio systems
- Deep knowledge of RF propagation, link budgets, modulation techniques, antennas, and encryption protocols.
- Hands-on experience with RF simulation software.
- Familiarity with SDR platforms (e.g., Ettus, ADI, NI), ground station systems, and integration into GCS/UAV platforms.
