Responsibilities:

The Engineer will manage, maintain and optimize Unix-based systems and infrastructure. Also, will be responsible for system administration, performance tuning, automation, and ensuring high availability of mission-critical environments.

  • Install, configure, and maintain Unix servers (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE, Oracle Linux, Sun Solaris) across both physical and virtualized environments.
  • Perform system monitoring, log analysis, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for both system and application issues.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, file systems, and security policies to ensure system integrity and compliance.
  • Implement patch management, upgrades, and system backups in line with organizational policies.
  • Manage network services such as DNS, NTP, SSH, FTP, Central Time & Frequency Systems.
  • Develop and maintain automation solutions to optimize infrastructure performance and ensure Disaster Recovery (DR) site readiness.
  • Collaborate with application, network, and security teams to ensure optimal performance, stability, and compliance.
  • Maintain and update system documentation, configuration details, and operational procedures.
  • Support virtualization environments including VMware, KVM, and Proxmox.
  • Work with containerization platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes and support Java-based applications.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to provide 24/7 support for critical systems and scheduled maintenance activities.
  • Contribute to the design, planning, and implementation of system enhancement and infrastructure upgrade projects.
  • Provide end-to-end support for mission-critical satellite applications, coordinating with vendors and various NOCs for issue resolution.
  • Support operational applications on backend servers and clients, including performing preventive maintenance, analyzing system alarms, and implementing root cause resolutions.
  • Collaborate with team members to enhance and implement maintenance plans and update test plans and operational procedures

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Electronics, or related field.
  • RedHat Linux/Unix Administration Certified 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Unix system administration (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu/SUSE,Solaris).
  • Strong experience in troubleshooting, performance tuning, and system recovery.
  • Hands-on knowledge of shell scripting (Bash, Python) for automation and monitoring tasks.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM, Proxmox).
  • Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes environments.
  • Good understanding of TCP/IP networking, firewalls, and secure remote connectivity.
  • Working Knowledge of windows AD, DNS, HTTP/s, SSH, LDAP, etc..
  • Experience with backup and recovery solutions.
  • Exposure to Satellite Ground Systems or mission-critical applications is an advantage.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a 24/7 operational support environment and under pressure.
