Overview:

The HCIS Specialist is responsible for the implementation, support, maintenance, and optimization of health care information systems within the organization. This role bridges the gap between clinical staff and IT to ensure that the systems used support high-quality patient care, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to analyze workflow and optimize HCIS functionality.

  • Provide technical support for Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and related applications.

  • Assist with the configuration, testing, and deployment of software updates and new modules.

  • Maintain data integrity, privacy, and security standards in accordance with HIPAA and other regulatory frameworks.

  • Troubleshoot system issues and coordinate with vendors for resolution.

  • Train users on new functionalities and system best practices.

  • Participate in data analytics initiatives and reporting to improve clinical outcomes and operational efficiency.

  • Document system configurations, standard operating procedures, and user manuals.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Informatics, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • (Preferred) Certification in HCIS, RHIA, RHIT, or equivalent.

Experience:

  • 2–5 years of experience working with healthcare IT systems, preferably EHRs such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech.

  • Experience in a clinical environment is a plus.

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of database systems, clinical software, and interface engines (HL7, FHIR).

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and healthcare data analysis tools.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
